Illness and Loss Bill of Rights

  1. I have the right to trust God and to seek His face and His will for my life and my situation.

  2. I have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.

  3. I have the right to have my own unique feelings and to express these feelings in my own way.

  4. I have the right to talk about my feelings when I feel like talking.

  5. I have the right to be silent and to keep my feelings to myself.

  6. I have the right to be vulnerable, to rest, and to be honest about my own

    (physical, spiritual, emotional, psychological, and financial) needs.

  7. I have the right to seek support from others AND to request privacy.

  8. I have the right to have the full range of emotions, from grief to anger to joy, and to have multiple emotions at the same time.

  9. I have the right to remain in control of decisions concerning me and to seek help from

    (or delegate decisions to) a trusted individual.

  10. I have the right to move forward at my own pace through processing the spiritual, emotional, physical,

    psychological and financial implications of what I am facing.

  11. I have the right to have questions and to seek answers from trusted sources.

  12. I have the right to use my beliefs and knowledge about God to help me understand my feelings and my situation.
